Ya it's no joke. For sure one of the most easily underestimated programming problems. And as a user you really feel deeply every little thing because number of interactions per minute is so damn high.
Why did none of my friends tell me programming a text editor was one of the hardest things in the world?
One of the more challenging technical onsites I had was making a text editor in < 4hrs. So many edge cases and things to consider. It was brutal.
Here's a little secret: a lot of CEOs miss doing the work.https://twitter.com/mitchellh/status/1418315344800669698 …
I helped build collaborative editing for Yammer back in the day. Text editors are deceptively complex.
haha I could have definitely told you that... we've been rewriting ours for like 2 years now :(
I think about this every time I do "basic" things in any editor. I can't help but wonder how much annoying code lives behind the scenes to make mundane things feel intuitive.
Building text editors is what I do day in day out Would love a chat even if it doesn’t lead to a project. DMs are open in case you’re interested
